When I transferred to Gasum as Project Director for the LNG Terminal Project at the beginning of June 2013, the project had two alternative implementation locations, Inkoo and Porvoo. Since both locations are Swedish-speaking, I decided to start studying Swedish. The intention was to be able to understand questions and answer in Swedish in project-related meetings, for example.
Promentor was selected as the training provider through Gasum's procurement. The training began during summer 2013 with a web-based level test, which was both interesting and versatile. The actual training started at the beginning of September and consisted of one hour per week plus homework. The teaching was versatile and constantly took into account how I was developing in my Swedish language skills. Since I wanted to develop in speaking and listening comprehension, studying grammar played a slightly smaller role. Studying was varied. It used Rikssvenska magazine articles on interesting topics, watching Swedish TV news broadcasts online, and other Swedish-language programs.
In addition, we effectively utilized Promentor Web both during lessons and especially for completing homework. Promentor Web is a good and versatile teaching aid. It contains varied exercises, and it's great that exercises can be practiced first. Immediate feedback is provided after completing an exercise. I was particularly pleased with exercises where one had to select the correct option for a blank space from a given set of words. Text passages support the exercises well.
The instruction ended at the end of April 2016 when I moved to work for another employer. I believe that by that stage I had already achieved the capabilities I was aiming for when starting the training.
